FIRE
COMMISSIONERS MEETING
June
7, 2004
The
Clermont Fire Commissioners held their regular monthly meeting on Monday, June
7, 2004 at 6:30 P.M. Supervisor Pelletier opened the meeting. Present were
Commissioner Staats, Commissioner Lent, Commissioner Harned and Commissioner
Tousey. Also present were Chief Laurence Saulpaugh and
2nd
Assistant Chief Mark Schiller.
A
motion was made to waive the reading of the minutes, as copies were provided and
to approve them by Commissioner Staats, seconded by Commissioner
Harned.

There
were three calls for the month as follows:
- Transformer
arching – County Route 6 and Route 9
- Unsupervised
controlled burn – Route 9G
- Alarm
activation – Carmelite Sisters, Woods Road
The
drill for the month was held on truck and station safety
checks.
The
Fire Company attended the Memorial Day Parade in Germantown on May 31,
2004.
Chief
Saulpaugh has received an application from NYS Department of Enviromental
Conservation, Division of Forest Protection and Fire Management for the
Volunteer Fire Assistance Program for 2004 matching funds grant award. This
grant is for light weight fireproof clothing, turnout gear, protective
equipment, generators, etc. relating to fire suppression. The due date is
September 30, 2004.
There
are also funds available from Homeland Security through William Black, Columbia
County Emergency Management for river rescue equipment. There are currently
nine fire companies equipped with response equipment and three emergency medical
service agencies in two divisions who respond to calls on the Hudson River.
They are seeking funds for equipment, etc. and have agreed to an automatic -
mutual aid response plan. Commissioner Harned motioned, seconded by Commissioner
Staats, to authorize Chief Saulpaugh to sign the agreement for Clermont Fire
Company to participate in the mutual aid plan for the Hudson River Response
Group. All in favor. So Carried.
The
quote for the cutters approved last month is $4,918.00 and will be
ordered.
The
company has had an architect looking at Station #1 for the work that has to be
done to the truck bays.
Commissioner
Lent has asked for letters of support from Congressman Sweeney for the
Assistance Grant Program for the Rescue Pumper truck to replace a 31 year old
truck

Commissioner
Harned presented the Executive Summary of the Clermont Fire District Service
Awards Program for 2003. The amount, which is recommended for the 2005 budget,
is $46,500.
A
motion was made by Commissioner Harned to pay the Fire Abstract #6 – Page
1, vouchers #62 – 74 in the amount of $560. 27. All in favor. So
carried.
A
motion was made to adjourn by Commissioner Staats, seconded by Commissioner
Harned. All in favor.
