CLERMONT TOWN BOARD
MAY 21, 2008
The Clermont Town Board held a special meeting on Wednesday, May 21, 2008 at 7:00
P.M. at the Town Hall. Those present were Supervisor Staats, Councilwoman O’Neal,
Councilman Jones and Councilwoman Lent. Councilman Nolan was absent.
Others present were Judith Neary and Elizabeth Mahar.
Supervisor Staats opened the meeting with the salute to the flag.
Bids for Academy Window Project: Received a bid from LaTorre Construction. After
discussion it was decided to not open the bid and re-advertise.
Elizabeth Mahar asked if contractors have to show that they have done historical work
previously? Yes, they must show that they have done historical work before.
Judy Neary - She did send a bid package to her uncle, however, he said that when a grant
is involved there is more to it and declined to submit.
MOTION: A motion was made by Councilwoman Lent to extend the bid opening until
the June 2nd meeting and advertise in the Albany Times Union. The motion was
seconded by Councilman Jones. All in favor. So carried. Councilwoman O’Neal will
contact LaTorre Contracting and ask if he wants to keep the bid in.
Supervisor Staats has asked the Assessor to attend the June 2nd meeting to explain to the
board and public why properties should be re-evaluated. The projected cost is $45000 to
do data collection on every parcel in Clermont. Councilwoman O’Neal thinks we should
ask members of the Board of Assessment Review to attend.
Councilman Jones brought the survey maps done by Mr. Zimmerman of the merger of
4.50 acres from the former Hettling property to the 5 acres parcel from Germantown
telephone. Discussed where the proposed driveway may be located and screening on
County Route 6 for neighbors who may be affected by lights coming out of the driveway.
Driveway material should be moved before subdivision is complete. Councilman Jones
would like a plan and estimate of amounts for driveway.
Councilman Jones spoke about the generosity of the Saulpaughs to the Town and as a
gesture of appreciation, if we build a little league field on County Route 6, he
recommended calling it Saulpaugh Little League Field.
Highway Superintendent Potts is looking at a pre-engineered building. Most of the work
inside the building could be done over time by the highway crew in order to save money.
Will be checking with Congresswoman Gillibrand’s office for grant money for the
garage.
Supervisor Staats has spoken to Dean Knox at the County Highway about the
requirements for the curbing for Lisa Platti’s driveway on County Route 6. They have
revised the plans for what she is requesting and are looking to revise their requirements.
MOTION: A motion was made to adjourn at 8:00 P.M. by Councilwoman Lent,
seconded by Councilwoman O’Neal. All in favor. So carried.
Respectfully submitted,
Mary Helen Shannon, RMC
Town Clerk
