CLERMONT FIRE COMMISSIONERS
JULY 16, 2012
The Clermont Fire Commissioners held their regular meeting on Monday, July 16, 2012 at 7:00 P.M. at the Town Hall. Those present were Chairman Mark Schiller, Commissioner Raymond Bauer, Commissioner Laurence Saulpaugh and Commissioner Harry Harned. Commissioner Charles Larsen was absent due to illness. Others present were Chief Ronald Rifenburgh, Denise Fiore, Treasurer and Bob Desmond.
MINUTES: The minutes of the June meeting were approved on a motion made by Commissioner Saulpaugh, seconded by Commissioner Bauer. All in favor. So carried.
TREASURERS’ REPORT: Treasurer Fiore submitted the following report.

A motion was made to accept the Treasurer’s June report by Commissioner Saulpaugh, seconded by Commissioner Bauer. All in favor. So carried.
CORRESPONDENCE:
- RBC Wealth Management LOSAP Account – Account Access Application to be signed by Commissioners.
- RBC Wealth Management Account Statement – 6/1/12 – 6/30/12 for $311,050.74.
- Fire District Affairs Newsletter for June/July – with budget and election information.
- Information on training from Fire District Affairs.
- Letters were sent to new firefighters Palmatier and Woods.
COMMITTEE REPORTS:
BUILDING AND GROUNDS: Commissioner Bauer/Commissioner Larsen
- Pestmasters exterminated at Station #1.
- Commissioner Bauer has fixed the flagpole at Station #1, which was bent.
- Commissioner Bauer has purchased a new lock for Station #1 and will put it in.
- Commissioner Bauer has contacted Darryl regarding floor and is waiting for his call back. The Chief said that the trucks would be moved out when he knows the date.
INSURANCE: Commissioner Bauer/Commissioner Larsen
- Discussed inventory, which the Chief and some Commissioners think was done and sent to insurance company. The Chief would like it to be entered into the district computer and kept up-to-date. He will redo it and submit it again.

OLD BUSINESS:
- The FEMA grant has been completed by Linda McLean. Chairman Schiller said that working with her was a good experience. She usually charges a fee of $500.00, which she waived for the district. Chairman Schiller wrote a letter to Ms. McLean thanking her. Letters were also written for support to Senator Charles Schumer, Senator Kirsten Gillibrand and Congressman Chris Gibson. The grant was written for a complete air fill system.
- A letter was written to Donald Van Wagner, thanking him for his interest in becoming a Fire Commissioner.
- Lease Company came to the meeting and they will be sending out a contract for the leasing of turnout gear.
- Chief Rifenburgh spoke to Dick Shakerly and he expects an inspection date of the truck after Labor Day, with delivery in October.
- Harry Harned has returned to the Board of Fire Commissioners.
- Treasurer Fiore contacted North Solutions about the website. They sent a questionnaire to find out what the district is looking for. There was discussion on the website for the District.
NEW BUSINESS:
- Commissioner Harned asked about leasing the turnout gear and the Chief explained that the lease is five years and because some of our gear is going out of date per OSHA requirements this will help to get us in compliance.
CHIEFS REPORT:
There were three calls for June:
- 6/2/12 – Barn Fire – 715 Church Avenue
- 6/22/12 – Tree Limb on Car – Route 9G
- 6/30/12 – AAPI – Route 9 and County Route 6
Drill for the month was held on 6/25/12 pump in relay with 601 to 604 to 603 using deck gun. One hour OSHA training. Eighteen firefighters attended.
- There was a mutual aid call for a structure fire in Livingston this past week. The different companies worked together very well.
- The Chief did purchase some things that were approved a few months ago. He is waiting on pump test date.
- The Chief reported that there is a problem drafting from the hydrant on Cemetery Road. He will cut pipe off and put on a new head. If it has to be replaced he will go to a 45 degree angle.
- Three firefighters are signed up for fire school in Hudson, Vucich, Palmatier and Woods. There are 13 or 14 signed up for an accident course. There is also a state run school on alternative fuels for one night, four hours.
- The Chief received a letter from Senator Charles Schumer regarding a Safer Grant, which is a component to the Firefighters Assistance grant, There was not much info on it.
- The 2011 Chiefs reports have all been resent and received by the state.
A motion was made to accept the Chiefs report by Commissioner Harned, seconded by Commissioner Bauer. All in favor. So carried.
A motion was made to pay the bills by Commissioner Harned, seconded by Commissioner Saulpaugh. All in favor. So carried.
PUBLIC COMMENT:
Bob Desmond – Commented on Columbia Fire and Rescue Blotter and he does not see Clermont too often. The Chief said that our calls are down so far this year.
He also thinks the district and company should have one website.
A motion was made to adjourn by Commissioner Bauer, seconded by Commissioner Harned at 8:15 P.M. All in favor. So carried.
