New legislation requires all New York State homeowners that received a BASIC STAR on their 2013 School Tax Bill to register with the NYS Tax & Finance Dept in order to receive the exemption in 2014 and subsequent years.
All New York homeowners receiving a BASIC STAR exemption MUST re-register (prior to 12/31/13) with the New York State Tax & Finance Department in order to receive the BASIC STAR exemption on their 2014-2015 School Tax Bill and subsequent school tax bills thereafter. Columbia County BASIC STAR recipients will receive a mailing from NYS within the first two weeks of September which will instruct them on how to re-register.
ENHANCED (SENIOR CITIZEN) STAR homeowners will continue to apply each year with their Town Assessor and are not required to re-register with NYS.
New Homeowners and/or homeowners that have never applied for the BASIC STAR exemption will need to apply this year (prior to 3/1/14) with their Town Assessor in order to receive this exemption on their 2014-2015 School Tax Bill.

Ms. Cheryl Kaszluga was appointed at the August 5th Town Board meeting. You may be familiar with Ms. Kaszluga because she has been doing the data collection on the town properties and did it four years ago, as well.
Cheryl will be keeping the same hours as Hank, on Tuesdays from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM and will also be at the town hall on Thursdays from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. To reach her by telephone, 518-537-6928 and by email - firstname.lastname@example.org. Please feel free to come by the Town Hall to meet her during these hours or if you have any questions regarding your assessment or exemptions.
